New homes in Skye are the ideal case for polished concrete: when the floor is planned before the slab is poured, the finish is more consistent and the exposure is yours to choose. We also do grind and seal and garage floors for established homes.
What we do in Skye
Skye is new-estate country, and a slab that is going to be polished should be treated differently from the day it is poured. Mix design, placement, curing and protection through the build all show up in the finished floor.
For established homes the work is more conventional — grind and seal through living areas, epoxy or sealed finishes in garages, and preparation where a floor is being changed.
Most relevant services: preparing a new slab for polishing and mechanically polished concrete .
Practical considerations
Talk to us before the pour
The best polished floors are agreed with the builder and concreter before the slab goes down. Once the concrete is placed, the aggregate exposure and much of the look are already decided.
Protect the slab during the build
Plaster, paint, adhesives and trades traffic all mark a slab. Covering it through the build is cheap compared with grinding damage out at the end.
Garages are a different floor
A garage sees tyres, oil and hot rubber. A sealed or epoxy finish is usually the practical choice there, even when the house gets a mechanical polish.
Common questions
- When should a polished floor be decided on a new build?
- Before the slab is poured, ideally. The concrete mix, the aggregate and how the surface is finished all affect what can be exposed and how even it will be.
- Can the builder pour the slab and you polish it later?
- Yes, that is the usual arrangement — but the slab needs to be placed, cured and protected with polishing in mind. We provide the specification to pass on.
- Do you do garage floors on their own?
- Yes. Garage floors are a common job on their own, usually as a sealed or epoxy finish.
